    Premier meets with Nigerian president

    Premier Li Keqiang met with visiting Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday at the Great Hall of the People. Li said China would promote cooperation with Nigeria in the construction of railway, road and hydropower stations, and in the acceleration of its industrialization process. Li also said China will encourage Chinese enterprises to invest in Nigeria.

    Steps taken to protect tour guides

    The China National Tourism Administration and the Ministry of Transport have jointly released a notice aimed at protecting the safety of more than 700,000 tour guides on the Chinese mainland. Tour guides must have a proper seat when traveling on buses and coaches - instead of sitting on a folding seat next to the driver, according to the notice. It also says tour guides should avoid addressing passengers while standing on moving vehicles.

    British lecturer 'possibly murdered'

    A British lecturer who disappeared from Hong Kong three weeks ago has been found dead on the mainland. The lecturer, Hilary Bower, 60, was last seen on March 21 at a land border checkpoint as he crossed into the mainland from Hong Kong. A police source said it was "possibly a murder", but that it has not been officially confirmed. Bower worked at Hong Kong Polytechnic University and lived in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, according to reports.

    Man sentenced for wildlife products

    A court in Fangchenggang recently upheld the 10-year prison sentence of a man who illegally transported wild animal products, including ivory and rhinoceros horns. The man, surnamed Zhang, attempted to transport 2.2 kilograms of ivory products, 0.69 kilograms of rhino horn fragments and 0.19 kilograms of lions' teeth last year from Dongxing to Fangchenggang. Zhang was convicted by the People's Court in Dongxing city, but he appealed.
